waiting for the contract
22° in Nadadouro 11° in Portreath
The sun is still gloriously shining here in Portugal. Nippy mornings and evenings but we experienced a delightful 26° at the weekend - needless to say we had another bbq bonanza.
So we've finally settled in to our new home. The old abode is packed away, and sitting empty awaiting Sergio and his crew to make her fine once more. We've pawed over the contract which will be ready to sign on Monday. Then the week after we dig in. I just want to start the process now. 13 months is long enough to dream of how it will be. I'm boring myself with the constant queries i have about the kitchen sink, or the ensuite tiles. Poor Dave and Jacob just smile at me, in a sort of pitiful way. I can see it in their eyes, i'm all but waiting for them to mutter 'ah bless' under their breaths.
So my next challenge is our natural swimming pool. It has been designed by Daniel Lloyd-Morgan from swimnatural.com - just in case any of you fancy one.
'Do we need a UV filter?' I query.
'No' says Daniel, 'this will kill everything in there and we need zoo plankton to eat the algae to keep it crystal clear!'
'What about the perforations in the pipes, will they diminish the pressure of the system?' i hope this shows how much research i really have been doing!!!
'No' sighs Daniel, 'the pipes are coated in fleece then buried under 2 different sized layers of gravel 20 cm thick.'
'What about a drain hole in the bottom?' 'It's not necessary' says Daniel, 'but if you want one you can have one.'
This poor guy is the most composed designer i know. I can almost see his shoulders drop and we're just talking on the phone. I'm sure after each conversation with me he thinks he could change professions and revert to just mowing lawns.
So today my next question will be 'Can we tile the inside instead of using a rubber liner Daniel?'
Suddenly in my mind's eye i see the lawnmower coming out of retirement!
the magic valley
DesignerThis blog was born when I left the UK and started a new adventure on the Silver Coast of Portugal. Being settled on the salty shores of the Atlantic is just idyllic; love, sun, sea and smiles, the perfect life for me.
