24° in Nadadouro 17° in Portreath

So we've left one Magic Valley for another warmer sunnier one. Leaving Portreath on 20.09.2009 was hard to do. I've lived there for nearly 12 years, and thought i always would do, but times change and now sitting here in the sunshine Cornwall seems like a distant memory.

After a very smooth crossing to Santander from Plymouth, and a hectic landing and stress free drive through Spain, we arrived in Nadadouro at noon on 22.09.09, the autumnal equinox. Dave packed the van like a Peruvian wall, not a gap to be seen. So this week has been a blur. Shop shop shop. Decided to go to IKEA in Lisbon for all the essentials, beds, desk, storage, fripperies! Everything was going well until Jacob reminded us we needed a mattress! Unfortunately we received this reminder once back at home, so the next day we did the same thing again!! Now we have replaced everything that had been left behind. Our little house is looking like home, still no kitchen, but who needs to cook when we have such fine beach bars on our doorstep. My Maggie Matthews' and Emma Jeffryes' pics are on the wall, the desk is up and internet and tv are on the way.

Jacob starts school tomorrow in the most fantastic establishment i've ever seen. He's already met his class who have vowed to teach him 'decent' Portuguese (i'll believe that when i hear it) and life is trundling along as before except every day brings something new to experience.

Yesterday there was a loud beep outside the house and it was a mobile shop. Being ever nosy Dave and I decided we needed to buy something. Out with our toothless neighbours, full of kindness and smiles, even though we don't understand each other even a little, tried to help us when we decided to buy matches. Gesticulating and shouting 'fuego' just didn't cut it. We were offered eggs, maize and everthing but. Then i spotted them and they chorused 'fosfores', phew. Another drama narrowly averted! So today, we're chilling. Enough excitement for us for one week xx

This blog was born when I left the UK and started a new adventure on the Silver Coast of Portugal. Being settled on the salty shores of the Atlantic is just idyllic; love, sun, sea and smiles, the perfect life for me.
